Changing Cambodia

As a kid that lives with a family that struggles with poverty, My parents never gave up a dream of getting their children a great education as possible but they can never do that. I only get to learn from the government school, it’s not safe, But one day, there was a magical school that appears from nowhere, it was Liger Leadership Academy school. My parents tried their best to get me into there by running to everywhere, asking everyone about this school, and buying items for me to take the test.

If I were to relate to what I had changed Cambodia by now, I can see that I am a part of the change in the society. If I would reclaim my life story from the beginning of this topic I would be said that I can’t afford a really high-quality school. So then I had this amazing exploration called Bambujaya, this name is coming from this new Cambodia private school-Bambujaya located in Phnom Penh, that hopes to offer an affordable option to government school students, so I got hired by the founder to adopt grade 3 textbook, into supplemental activities which mean that we are not trying to change the Khmer curriculum; rather, we are adapting it by writing activities called “add-ons” that are more engaging, hands-on, and address multiple learning styles. So they can have it for teaching the student in the school.

The add-ons allow the students to study also having fun with the activity that we provide to them. So if I was born again it won’t be hard for my family to find a high-quality school also affordable.

Also, people around us always busy that they don’t really care about the awareness of our surrounding that can help them with idea or knowledge that can help them in the future. Like the awareness of Rabies that spread by dogs and cats that live strong with you all the time. We always knew that Rabies come from dogs and cats but we don’t know how to prevent it from spreading it to human. The awareness that we facing it can solve we just need to the action by go them and talk about the problem and how to solve it. So we had this amazing team that working with Animal Recule Cambodia too, run out to the community and tell them about Rabies with the poster, information card, and by month.

         But we didn’t stop there.

We got our self a final task, it was going out and vaccinate dogs and cats in our community for free; by the donation from Animal Rescue Cambodia (ARC). In this case, we need to get an abundance of jobs done in time to get this happen. I was assigned to communicate with the village chief for the permission to allow us to vaccinate dogs and cats and we need the village chief to spread the word to a different family in order to get this mission a success. By the end of all the hard work -communication with the village chief and villager- now it time for the fun time with hard work involved.

We had to go out and vaccinate cats and dogs through two villages, which are Chompous Kaek and Koh Krobey. For both villages, we got to vaccinate 126 dogs and cats combined. So this a really successful day that I had to help my village -Koh Krobey- and nearby village for getting Rabies. This is just a small area village but it can make a fair amount of difference.

This is just a small project that we learn about that help to create a small change in some area that could make a gigantic difference in the future. Although change doesn’t happen immediately I believe it will pay off one day.

I greatly cheer up for anyone who believes in yourself cause you have the ability to did, it not other who that you that. You can be anyone or anything by you try to become that person. If you want to be a change agents for your country. Don’t wait for the right time, make the time wait for you to do it.

Whenever I struggle with something I always say this to myself “All is well, if I’m happy, it fine for me and it also fine for other cause they can’t see inside of me”

Change Cambodia

  • Think about change (what things did I notice need to be changed in my country; what solutions did I think about, even if I couldn’t DO the solution?)
  • Raise awareness about necessary change (did I talk to others and share my ideas about what needs to be changed; possible solutions? did I talk about that with people? with friends? family?)
  • Try to promote and encourage change (did I do my best to teach others/show others/be an example and model of change? did I try to educate others about change? ex: sharations, trips, networking)
  • Develop the possibility of change (before change can happen, other things must come first; did you try to “get the ball rolling” or take “baby steps” that come before making a big change?)
  • Actually, create change in Cambodia this year

Explanation

In 2016-2017 at Liger Learning Center, we all had created change for every single one of us. Do you know some of the things that I had experienced this year that created change? This some of the thing that I will talk about Game Design and Preventive Health that really stand out to me and it created change in Cambodia. Creating change is one of the ways to improve a country, a change that would not happen if we don’t take action. Taking that chance and doing something with it, it is going to improve society.

In Game Design Exploration my job was to design the board and the pawns for the game. In this job, I was a part of the groups that help change Cambodia by making a board game that will be given to rural government schools all across Cambodia for free. As a Cambodia citizen, and the son of my parents, I get to learn some new software that some of the government students can’t get to learn so I can get to change in Cambodia. In the future, Cambodia can use all of that software to design something good to help Cambodia. In Cambodia, there is one problem in learning: government school teaching is so boring and students have no fun in class. If students have games that can apply to government schools to help their learning it would be really good for the young Cambodians. The game topic is Climate Change and they have questions that they will get to answer the government school curriculum so they can review what they learn and have fun at the same time. In the Game design, we took baby steps to finish it slow and make it as good as possible.

The exploration of Preventive Health really helps me to change Cambodia in a positive way that I can’t think that a lot of change. After a few week of thinking, I realized that the change I make really impact the hold sociality and the people that live on the island health better. The problems that Cambodia is facing right now is health, health is the most important thing that people need in order to live a good person. I was one of the members that involved with the activity that going out to the island of Koh Rong to work with the Song Saa Foundation to teach about health on the island. It really working and people on the island having an understanding how health is a real thing to take care of. I made a play that covers a story that teaches them how to brush teeth, what type of food to eat and some problem that they facing with their teeth. In the same time, we had gone out to the ocean to learn about the most important the health of the marine life. I have taken action on a part of protecting our marine life and working with Song Saa to save, also learn about it to get an understanding how important the health of human and ocean are to the life of the planet. If base on the science behind the ocean is 50% of the oxygen that we breathe comes from the ocean make by the Bioluminescent Plankton that lives in there, if we live on the island surrounded by ocean.

In conclusion, I was helping my country with my full potential and help is one thing I like to do and work with all the time in my life. In the country change is the most important thing that we can have to improve our country. My life If I don’t have any change I would not be one of the Liger students as today. Change help to bring me as a person, I would take as my full potential in the future. Anyone in the world can make a change in a blink of an eye, every day different people have a different change each and every second of life.

Changing Cambodia

Question to ask your self

● think about change (what things did I notice need to be changed in my country; what solutions did I think about, even if I couldn’t DO the solution?)

● raise awareness about necessary change (did I talk to others and share my ideas about what needs to be changed; possible solutions? did I talk about that with people? with friends? family?)

● try to promote and encourage change (did I do my best to teach others/show others/be an example and model of change? did I try to educate others about change? ex: sharations, trips, networking)

● develop the possibility of change (before change can happen, other things must come first; did you try to “get the ball rolling” or take “baby steps” that come before making a big change?)

● actually create change in Cambodia this year

One thing that I learn in Liger I had change Cambodia learning is that need to be change is the environment to make it clear and no rubbish on the roads and other place in Cambodia. Other thing need to make Cambodian child get a lot of education and not just the child it can be adult. Make the rule strictly then Cambodian people will respect each other. My solution to make the first change to become a better place in the world is to get the environment clear and get more people come it to the group that clear the country is we can we make everyday is the day clear your house and don’t let the rubbish get in front of our house. Other idea can put a camera in every rode to take a picture when someone do something wrong like in U.S.A. If we can give the education to other people about the thing take we can give then we can making something to improve that education and the economic in the future. In Liger I have tell someone like and teach them about Water Safety, Self- Composting Toilet, Toy. The water safety is one of the change Cambodia because in Cambodia the most leading cost in Cambodia that why we make this exploration in this exploration we had teach the student have to swim to save their live from drowning and now they can swim for five meters to ten meters right now and other we teach the water safety messages that can make the student understand what to not do when you need the water or tell someone. The self composting toilet is to make the water clear and make the other NGOs using it and teach them how to use it the advantage of that not make the kids or adults get drown from going far from the house then it relate to the water safety and we had make a model to improve the design from Live and Learn in Cambodia. The Toy why toy is one of the thing that can change Cambodia because we can use the recycling thing make it into the thing that can be useful and can make for the kids to play with. In water safety we had tall to Camkids how to not drown in the water and not to play in the water. The self composting toilet we talk to the people that live on Tonle Sap about the self composting toilet and how to use and promote to using it. The baby step take I take like to make a change in water safety is first need to make something that we can change Cambodia then we come up with water messages and then we make them it Inkscape then share it with other people is that and what water it change Cambodia. The real change that I have done is to make the other people use the self composting toilet and not make the water is dirty. With water safety we have reduce the amount for drowning is going down. I holp that in the future I will change Cambodia more than now.
