Changing Cambodia

As a kid that lives with a family that struggles with poverty, My parents never gave up a dream of getting their children a great education as possible but they can never do that. I only get to learn from the government school, it’s not safe, But one day, there was a magical school that appears from nowhere, it was Liger Leadership Academy school. My parents tried their best to get me into there by running to everywhere, asking everyone about this school, and buying items for me to take the test.

If I were to relate to what I had changed Cambodia by now, I can see that I am a part of the change in the society. If I would reclaim my life story from the beginning of this topic I would be said that I can’t afford a really high-quality school. So then I had this amazing exploration called Bambujaya, this name is coming from this new Cambodia private school-Bambujaya located in Phnom Penh, that hopes to offer an affordable option to government school students, so I got hired by the founder to adopt grade 3 textbook, into supplemental activities which mean that we are not trying to change the Khmer curriculum; rather, we are adapting it by writing activities called “add-ons” that are more engaging, hands-on, and address multiple learning styles. So they can have it for teaching the student in the school.

The add-ons allow the students to study also having fun with the activity that we provide to them. So if I was born again it won’t be hard for my family to find a high-quality school also affordable.

Also, people around us always busy that they don’t really care about the awareness of our surrounding that can help them with idea or knowledge that can help them in the future. Like the awareness of Rabies that spread by dogs and cats that live strong with you all the time. We always knew that Rabies come from dogs and cats but we don’t know how to prevent it from spreading it to human. The awareness that we facing it can solve we just need to the action by go them and talk about the problem and how to solve it. So we had this amazing team that working with Animal Recule Cambodia too, run out to the community and tell them about Rabies with the poster, information card, and by month.

         But we didn’t stop there.

We got our self a final task, it was going out and vaccinate dogs and cats in our community for free; by the donation from Animal Rescue Cambodia (ARC). In this case, we need to get an abundance of jobs done in time to get this happen. I was assigned to communicate with the village chief for the permission to allow us to vaccinate dogs and cats and we need the village chief to spread the word to a different family in order to get this mission a success. By the end of all the hard work -communication with the village chief and villager- now it time for the fun time with hard work involved.

We had to go out and vaccinate cats and dogs through two villages, which are Chompous Kaek and Koh Krobey. For both villages, we got to vaccinate 126 dogs and cats combined. So this a really successful day that I had to help my village -Koh Krobey- and nearby village for getting Rabies. This is just a small area village but it can make a fair amount of difference.

This is just a small project that we learn about that help to create a small change in some area that could make a gigantic difference in the future. Although change doesn’t happen immediately I believe it will pay off one day.

I greatly cheer up for anyone who believes in yourself cause you have the ability to did, it not other who that you that. You can be anyone or anything by you try to become that person. If you want to be a change agents for your country. Don’t wait for the right time, make the time wait for you to do it.

Whenever I struggle with something I always say this to myself “All is well, if I’m happy, it fine for me and it also fine for other cause they can’t see inside of me”

Wonder Woman Physics

Dianna blocking scenes

Dianna of the mascara is certainly wondrously crafted by the gods themselves she is incredibly strong and agile quick enough to matrix-style visualize bullets and block them just being fast and just being strong isn’t enough to do what Wonder Woman does she have to be really smart too.

Wonder Woman’s abilities have been to use her indestructible to deflect incoming projectiles in most cases bullets. It seems straightforward to identify the bullet and block it but it’s not that easy and that’s where the wonder comes in. To block the bullet, we need the reaction time to do so and you need to be strong enough to withstand the impact so first what does blocking a bullet feels like well right.

Right before impact; bullet has two-quantities that can help us determine what the force would feel like when you block a bullet the first is momentum (MV) then Kinetic Energy (1/2MV^2).

Model-Gewehr-98

Before we get into Dianna shoot blocking, we need to understand the feel of blocking a shot. Base in the movie of Wonder Woman, the German using the gun call Gewehr 98, that had a bullet weight of 9.9-grams with a velocity of 878 m/s and with time travel of 1/24 s because in the sense of Wonder Woman movie it takes about that time.

So we can use the F=MA to measure how much force did Diana had felt every time she blocked a shot of a Gewehr 98. Base on the calculation she needs to experience 210 N every time. F = MV/T, F = 9.9*878/1/24 s, F = 210 N.

The kinetic energy of bullets is an important metric weaponry because it describes how far a bullet will go how far it will penetrate into some object before it is slowed down by the forces impressed upon it but Dianna’s braces are impenetrable so instead we are gonna use momentum which describes how long it will take a bullet to be slowed down to zero by some force based.

She can block a bullet without reacting to and so her reaction time would have to be incredibly fast. War scene it is about 800m with a reaction time of 0.9s. With beach scene is less than 100m she had a reaction time of 0.1s. It the scene she saves a person with 5-meters away, she had a reaction time of 0.01s. That is twice as fast as our brain can tell us to move our limbs. Blocking bullet like Wonder Woman it not just require strength or speed in have to be a gigantic physics nerd.

Bambujaya Exploration

Bambujaya school is a new private school in Phnom Penh, that hopes to offer an affordable option to government school students. It is unique in that it will use the government school curriculum, but with innovative and engaging adaptations. So this is where we come in to play! Writing supplemental activities using grade three Khmer curriculum. This means that we are not changing the curriculum; rather, we are adapting it by writing activities called “add-ons” that are more engaging, hands-on, and address multiple learning styles. These add-ons should also be specific, observable, measurable, and simple for the teacher to understand. Finding cross-curriculum activities→ apply knowledge or value to more than one academic. When students can be shown that topics or subjects are connected, it will be more relevant and meaningful to students. Bambujaya wants activities that are STEM-based using light resources to supplement their curriculum. In this Exploration, we have grade 3 books, that 3 topics, Khmer, Science and Societal study, and Math. So I chose the Khmer textbook to write about. So below is some of the add-ons that I wrote in my exploration.

Book: Khmer book

Topic: Describe an event

Central Lesson:

Name: Art skill at a young age

Duration: 10 min for drawing pictures, 2 min check picture, 15 min writing about the picture

Step: 3

Learning Objectives: Students will be able to use their artistic skill to depict an event, and then allow another student to write a story describing their drawing.

Description: Students will need to have a paper(A4) and pencil or pen. Then let them draw a picture of an event of their choice (it can be anything) (Traffic accident, Birthday party, Khmer New Year, Pjum Ben) that they have seen before. Afterward, the students will switch the picture with another student in the class. The students will take a look at the picture they have been given for a few minutes. Then they need to start to write a story based on the picture that they saw. The story can be made up, or true if they know about it.

Additional Resources: Paper(A4), Color pencil, Pencil, Pen

P.S. This activity can be related to reading and writing

Example: On the 1st of June is the event that everyone in the world come together and having a fun time with each other. When they saw each other they will start shooting firework like lightning shooting into the sky forever. This event had started for the last 20 billion year ago, this event starts with man name Bulletin Zap, so the event name after the founder name.

Goddess Aphrodite | Lady of love and beauty

In my English literacy class, we learned about Greek mythology. In this class, we also had Greek mythology project that every student need to complete. Each student was assigned to a god or a goddess and need to research closely about the god that they got. Below is my research paper about my god.

Aphrodite Birth
  • Greek name/ Role/ Power

Aphrodite, The Ancient Greek goddess of sexual love and beauty, identified with Venus by the Romans. The Greek word aphros means “foam” Aphrodite was, in fact, widely worshipped as a goddess of the sea and of seafaring; she was also honoured as a goddess of war, especially at Sparta, Thebes, Cyprus, and other places, However, she was known primarily as a goddess of love and fertility and even occasionally preside over marriage. The secret power of her is transformative power–Love as magical powers of transformation that could cause both gods and mortals to do as she bid them.

Like all the Greek Olympic gods, Aphrodite was immortal and very powerful. Her special powers were those of love and desire. She had a belt that had the power of love, it causes other to fall in love with the wearer. Some time other Greek goddesses, such as Hera, would borrow the belt from time to time. The belt had the ability to cause fighting couples to fall in love again.

  • Family/ Relatives
Hephaestus

There are many of the gods were in love with Aphrodite, Zeus was afraid that there going to be a great battle would break out over her. Then he arranged a marriage between Aphrodite and Hephaestus. What was funny about this Greeks as Hephaestus was a lame and ugly god.

Zeus (Father)

These are all the known relatives of Aphrodite. Her mother was Dione and her father was Zeus. In the other story had been told that Aphrodite was born from the white foam produced by the severed genitals of Uranus(Heaven) after his son Cronus threw them into the sea. This is the two-story of Aphrodite birth that haven clarify. She had three main siblings Athena, Hera, and Helen. Aphrodite had a husband named Hephaestus but she cheated on him with Ares. She had nine children named Anteros, Eros, Deimos, Phobos, Harmonia, Eryx, Hermaphrodites, Priapus, and Aeneas. Aphrodite also had many consorts within the consort also had children with them too like Hephaestus,  Ares: Eros, Phobos, Deimos, Harmonia, Pothos, Anteros, and Himeros, With Hermes: Hermaphroditus, With Poseidon: Rhodes, Eryx, With Dionysus: Peitho, The Graces, Priapus, With Anchises: Aeneas.

Of Aphrodite’s mortal lovers, The most important were the Trojan shepherd Anchises, by whom she became the mother of Aeneas, and the handsome youth Adonis, who was killed by a boar while hunting and was lamented by women at the festival of Adonis. the cult of Adonis had underworld features, and Aphrodite was also connected with the dead at Delphi (ancient town and seat of the most important Greek temple and oracle of Apollo).

Aphrodite had many siblings like Aeacus, Angelos, Apollo, Ares, Artemis, Athena, Dionysus, Eileithyia, Enyo, Eris, Hebe, Helen of Troy, Hephaestus, Hercules, Hermes, Minos, Pandia, Persephone, Perseus, Rhadamanthus, the Graces, the Horae, the Litae, the Muses, the Moirai, or the Titans, the Cyclopes, the Meliae, the Erinyes (Furies), the Giants, the Hekatonkheires.

  • Symbols/ Physical appearance

Aphrodite was known as the highly attractive young god who dressed stylish and loved to wear jewelry. Her eyelashes were curled and she had a constant smile on her cute face. She had a tender neck and symbolized the feminine beauty. Aphrodite’s symbols were the girdle (which she was using to compel love), the seashell and the mirror. It is said that the female gender symbol is likely to represent the mirror of Aphrodite, the top half of the symbol representing the actual mirror and the bottom half it handles. The sacred animal was the dove.

This the meaning of Aphrodite symbols, Her symbols were Dolphin, Rose, Scallop Shell, Myrtle, Dove, Sparrow, Girdle, Mirror, & Swan.

  • What is the meaning?
    • Dolphin: Prayerfulness, Harmony, Gentleness, intelligence, playfulness, friendship and generosity. Dolphins are very social animals.
    • Rose: rose is ancient symbols of love and beauty. “Rose” means pink or red in a variety of languages(such as Romance languages, Greek, and French).
    • Scallop Shell: some versions of the birth of Aphrodite have her washing ashore on a large scallop shell. The scallop shell may also refer to the female genitals, as the ancient Greek word for scallop, kteis, may mean either.
    • Myrtle: The myrtle-tree and myrrh bush were sacred to Aphrodite because it was from one of these plants that her beloved Adonis was born.
    • Dove: Grace and beauty.
    • Sparrow: Creativity, Joy, and Protection.
    • Girdle (Belt): Sensuality and irresistible beauty.
    • Mirror: Self-image or outer beauty
    • Swan: Pure Beauty.
  • Celebration
Temple of Aphrodite

This the festival that celebrates Aphrodite. The festival Aphrodite is Aphrodisia which is celebrated in Athens and Corinth. Aphrodite is not a patron god of any city or area. There isn’t any known information on the celebration. That’s all there is about this celebration.

  • History/ War/ Myth

When the goddess Eris was turned away from a party, she tossed a golden apple among the other goddesses that said: “To the Fairest” on it. The goddesses Hera, Aphrodite, and Athena all wanted the apple. Zeus Decided that a mortal name Paris would decide who deserves the apple.

The three goddesses visited Paris and he had to decide who was the most beautiful. The three goddesses offered him with something, Hera offered him with power, Athena offered him wisdom and fame, and Aphrodite offered him love with the most beautiful mortal woman in the world, Helen. Paris had chosen Aphrodite. However, when Paris stole Helen from a Greek king and took her to Troy, he started the Trojan War.

Trojan War

Aphrodite sided with the Trojans in the Trojan War. This was because both Paris and her son, the hero Aeneas, were Trojans. She also persuaded the god of war, Ares, to support Troy during the war. Aphrodite was very involved in the war, protecting both Paris and Aeneas during battle. At one point she even gets injured and has to return to Mount Olympus for healing.

  • Fun Fact
    • Aphrodite is known to have flings with other Gods, and mortals like Ares, Adonis, & Anchises. She is married to Hephaestus, and has over 20 children!
    • She is sometimes called the lady of Cyprus
    • The Greeks would not sacrifice a pig to Aphrodite as one tale tells how a wild boar killed a mortal she loved named Adonis
    • Aphrodite day of the week is Friday (which is the day that I was born

Rabies Mission _ Phnom Penh Mission

On February 8, 2018, our exploration (Public Health) had a rabies mission. The mission went so well and we successfully vaccinated 167 cats and dogs! On that day, it was so long and tired but I did lose my courage to continue working. In this mission all of us have a job, some people scanned for chips while some other vaccinate dogs and cats also have a person recording animal’s data. I am really looking forward to other mission like this. on that day it was really fun we work with each other really well also work with the villagers that bring their dogs and cats to vaccinate. The villagers feel really happen with what we had provided them. I am really proud of my team for all of the work, and also I want to say thank you to all of the members that help for this mission to happen.

Rabies

Rabies is a type of virus that moves through our nervous system and damages the brain in 1-3 months. In Cambodia, it is estimated around 5 million dogs and half of the dogs contain rabies virus. There are 600 000 severe dog bites per year to human and about 800 death due to rabies.Around 60% of severe bites are in children age under 17 years. .Rabies it is 100% FATAL when it goes through your body to the brain, no cure, only vaccine before the bite and after the bite. .The symptoms of animals that have rabies are hydrophobia, acrophobia, hypersalivation, and difficulty in breathing. You can identify the animal if it has rabies by notice the tail down, voice change, lost of orientation, can’t recognize its owner, hypersalivation. Cambodia rabies identifies that it mostly happens on dogs but these animals also have it too, cat, cow, pig, squirrel, bat, and African Dog.

LED CUBE Patterns

My round 2 ASE focused on building a LED CUBE that made by led into a cube of 4 by 4 by 4. In this LED cube it displays pattern of light that looks really cool. I was using Arduino to input code to run the pattern by javascript. I had a really hard time to work with soldiering because the wire and the soldier don’t really connect to each other. So this work is still in process, when it was done I will show it to everyone and maybe created the pattern that goes along with the music.

Pjum Ben

In Khmer Class, I had created a presentation of the coming up even call Pjum Ben. In this presentation, I need to research about this event and learn from the event too. After we research we doing a presentation to our classmate for understanding and learn how people don’t the research differently.

Study of Kinematic

Physics is not just a study of forces or motion, but math also has a role in physics as well as the living thing nonliving thing can involve inside a word of physics. We also learned to apply formulas to an exercise. It is challenging since I always have to be organized in solving the problems. I like that there is a variety of ways that can be done in the solving process, When I’m not sure about some problems I can try many ways to solves the problems successfully.

Coming of Age Narrative Essay

 Skill at Any Age

we were always told to mind our parents and that adults know best. We were taught to obey and believe that we adults were superiors; however, this wasn’t always the case.  As a 3-D designer, I have learned skills that so many adults lack and would love to acquire. At the young age of fifteen, I have recognized that I have potential to learn like an adult. I was really glee with knowledge and skill development at a young age.

When I was a kid, I adept in architectural drawing, I was really passionate about that career. Also, that was my family and my grandfather, that passed away when I was 10-year-olds, wanted me to do it as my career. I  remembered the last quote, grandfather, he told me with the last breath, Khmer(ចង់អ្វីធ្វើអ្វីតាមចិត្ត ជីវិតនិងមានផ្លូវដើរជារៀងរហូត), “Do what you want to do, life will always have ways to choose”. After he died for a few week I got a scholarship to Liger Leadership Academy.

Then I was introduced by my teacher, Max, when I was 11 years old, in the Liger Leadership Academy. In that year, I just got my new computer, and  I was really excited with the concept that I could learn from that computer. Instead, my teacher, Max, he introduces to a new software called, “Blender”. I was a kid that adapt to learn new, with full effort than I just love to work with 3d.

In life, I always have other say the bad thing to me like they just don’t understand about my feeling. This guy wants his freedom to do like other want to do. I’m really enjoy thinking about this quote, “First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win”. So I did win over that people with the try, work, and help. As I work I always want to make my father dream to come true. My father he really wants me to learn this subject because he doesn’t have a chance to learn. He had motivated me as always to try and never give up on my dream. I love him so I really want him to feel really happy for his life. I had made him cry for me since I was a baby until now.  So now it’s time to pay him back what he wants.

I really excited with the skills that I have in the past few years, I try my best to make really cool and creative design to help other in the emotion or having fun just watch some of the design that I did. I have learned how to make a short animation, a still picture, and I can sculpt person face into 3-d, but I’m not sure that I can make the face extremely the same for the amateur skill in the blender.  I think I can try out to make it the best with what I have learned and know.

As an adult they have weakness and strength in life, some adult has more experience than other. Some kid also has more experience than a large amount of adult too. If the adult and kid working together they can share their knowledge with each other, I have an experience when I was learning on my holiday with my mother friend, she was a teacher the know one way of doing algebraic and I know the other ways of doing algebra but we get the same answer so we had share what I learn to other in exchange for some other ways. Young students sometimes have more skill than the adult.

I had faced so many challenges in the past few years with the skills that I’m working with. I had more homework to work on for school, so I don’t have much time to practice my skills for so long. Something the computer is too slow, I can’t work on anything with the slow computer. Sometimes I just can’t keep my motivation going while I have more thing to work and more idea to think about. I always think about anything that I don’t really need to think.  I just can’t stop thinking about that,  I always want to find ways to stops that from me.

This skill has now become my passion, it had taught me how to become a person that has the determination and hard worker by the challenge I had faced in the past few years. I constantly committed to the craft of design and improving my skill. This skill could lead me to a great future because Cambodia is a developing country so they really need a 3d modeler for the building that will build in Cambodia.
